Jordan’s King Abdullah will meet former U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Feb. 11, the Jordanian state news agency reported. The meeting comes after Trump suggested that Egypt and Jordan take in Palestinians from Gaza, a proposal widely criticized as forced displacement.
Last week, Trump referred to Gaza as a “demolition site” after 15 months of Israeli bombardment, leaving most of its 2.3 million residents homeless. His comments sparked backlash, with critics calling it ethnic cleansing.
Jordan swiftly dismissed the idea. Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed on Jan. 26 that the country’s stance against the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza remains “firm and unwavering.” Jordan already hosts millions of Palestinians, and along with Egypt, rejects the relocation proposal. Arab nations insist that Gaza remains integral to any future Palestinian state.
Trump’s remarks have fueled further tensions in the Middle East, where ongoing conflict has heightened concerns over regional stability. The upcoming meeting between King Abdullah and Trump will likely address these issues, along with broader geopolitical concerns.
