West Lafayette, IN, April 17, 2018 -- Today, the Purdue University Office of Engagement announced a partnership with the Jefferson Awards Foundation, the nation’s most prestigious and longest-standing organization dedicated to powering and celebrating public service, to join the organization’s Champions program. The partnership was announced at the Purdue University Office of Engagement Awards Luncheon in the Purdue Memorial Union on Tuesday, April 17.
The Jefferson Awards Foundation’s Champions partner with the organization to engage in meaningful public service and celebrate their communities for greatness in public service. Purdue University joins 28 other businesses, organizations, and educational institutions across the country who recognize outstanding members of their community with Jefferson Awards.
“We are thrilled to partner with Purdue University and welcome them into our Champions program,” said Hillary Schafer, CEO of the Jefferson Awards Foundation. “By celebrating outstanding service and helping young people to impact their communities, Purdue University is setting an incredible example for educational institutions across the country and will impact lives for years to come.”
Purdue will honor three individuals each semester, starting in fall 2018. In addition, Purdue staff and faculty will engage directly with youth service leaders trained by the Jefferson Awards Foundation and will participate in training and mentorship programs.
“Purdue is proud to partner with the Jefferson Awards Foundation,” said Steve Abel, Purdue Associate Provost for Engagement. “As one of the nation’s most engaged Universities, collaborating with the Foundation will enable Purdue to cultivate the next generation of public servants while celebrating our own.”
