Ivanka Trump under fire for not wearing a face mask in Charlotte visit

The US has the most COVID-19 cases in the world, which has resulted in many states strictly enforcing the wearing of face masks in public and maintaining social distancing whenever and wherever possible. However, Donald Trump is infamously known for snubbing the wearing of face masks in events and it appears that his eldest daughter Ivanka Trump is doing the same.

Ivanka Trump traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina to hear her father speak at the city’s convention center for the Farmers to Families Food Box Program. The White House senior adviser also shared a photo from the event to her followers. “Our Farmers to Families Food Box Program has fed more than 100 million meals to people since its launch weeks ago in response to COVID-19. Today President @RealDonaldTrump committed $1 billion more to this historic program -- a big win for the American people,” tweeted Ivanka.

However, Ivanka came under fire from users mostly questioning why she did not wear a face mask to the event despite an ongoing pandemic. Others pointed out how inappropriate her attire was for the occasion. This is in contrast to Ivanka’s previous travels where she was seen wearing a face mask when out in public, even including a chain on her face covering so she could wear it around her neck as well.

At the same time, her stepmother first lady Melania Trump was also criticized for a similar reason when she visited a children’s art exhibit honoring the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. The exhibit was hosted by the White House and the first lady was seen giving some of the children hugs all the while without wearing a face mask nor practicing social distancing.

Speaking of both Ivanka and Melania Trump, The Guardian reports more details from an upcoming tell-all book by the first lady’s former confidante Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. According to the upcoming book, Ivanka supposedly tried to undermine the first lady. One such instance was when Melania was in the midst of selecting who would become her Chief of Staff, the first lady then referred to Ivanka and her allies as “snakes.”

The book also suggests that Ivanka may have been behind the plagiarized speech Melania made during the 2016 Republican convention.
