IberBlue Wind has proposed another 990-MW floating wind farm project, dubbed La Pinta, on Spain’s southern coast.

Just like Nao Victoria, IberBlue Wind’s first project of this size in the waters of the Andalusia region, La Pinta will also be designed to feature 55 floating wind turbines of 18 MW per unit.

The turbines are planned to be located 15 kilometers and 35 kilometers from the coasts of Granada and Almeria.

The construction and maintenance of the La Pinta wind farm will require over EUR 2.5 billion (USD 2.72bn) in investments, IberBlue Wind estimates.

The company had submitted the initial project document to the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and has engaged with the Andalusia regional government, town halls, and other stakeholders.

Andalusia has a great wind resource, good infrastructure, and potential capacity to become a benchmark for this kind of project, according to Julio Vera, Stakeholder Engagement & Policy Director of IberBlue Wind.

Vera added that the coasts of Granada and Almeria have favorable conditions for offshore wind farms, although it will need to reinforce the electricity network in the surrounding area to take all the energy generated.

Launched in September 2022, the IberBlue Wind , a joint venture (JV) between Ireland’s Simply Blue Group and Spanish firms Proes Consultores and FF New Energy Ventures, has a goal to develop around 2,000 MW of floating wind projects off the coasts of Spain and Portugal.

Since then, the developer announced the Nao Victoria project off Spain, Botafogo off central Portugal six months ago, and a 1,960-MW two-farm cross-border project off the North Atlantic coasts of both countries.
