LOS ANGELES, March 19, 2018 -- Investor’s Business Daily (IBD), a leading financial news and research organization, today announced the results of its third annual Best Mutual Funds Awards. Funds named to the prestigious list were selected because they have beaten the broad market over the past one, three, five and 10 years -- an incredibly rare and difficult achievement.
“The stock market has continued to thrive over the past year, and investors want to know which funds are the best-performing mutual funds. With IBD’s rankings of the Best Mutual Funds, they get an unbiased analysis based on a decade of returns,” said Susan Warfel, managing editor of IBD. “We congratulate this year’s winners for their performance.”
For the 2018 list, 2,806 mutual funds met the criteria of having at least $100 million in assets and 10 years of operation, but only 627 funds beat their performance benchmark across all four periods evaluated. Breaking it down further, of the 1,104 U.S. diversified stock mutual funds in business for the entire decade and tracked by Morningstar Inc., only 115 outperformed the S&P 500 index at the one-, three-, five- and 10-year marks.
The awards span 12 categories: U.S. Diversified Stock Funds, Growth Funds, Blend Funds, Value Funds, Large-cap Funds, Mid-cap Funds, Small-cap Funds, Sector Funds, International Stock Funds, U.S. Taxable Bond Funds, International Bond Funds and Municipal Funds. No value funds made the 2018 list.
Five funds dominated both the U.S. Diversified Equity and the Growth categories, soundly beating the S&P 500 benchmark for each period evaluated.
