Huawei has finally joined the party of 8GB RAM smartphones through the recent launch of the Honor 10 GT. The device was unveiled in an event earlier this week in China.
The Honor 10 GT is a refresh for Huawei’s Honor 10 series, which was released earlier this year and is being sold with 4GB and 6GB variants. Before the Honor 10 GT was unveiled, there were very few other smartphones available in an 8GB RAM configuration.
The notable models with this hefty memory specification include the OnePlus 5T, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 SE, Razer Phone, Asus ZenFone AR (as in augmented reality), and ZTE Nubia Z17. These smartphones are obviously packed with other head-turning features, and Huawei's Honor 10 GT is ready to compete with them.
The Honor 10 GT is packed with other impressive specs, including a 5.8-inch screen that extends almost to the edges and displays content in 2,280 x 1,080 resolution. The Honor GT 10 is also a break from the typical fingerprint reader design by virtue of having the scanner on the front side. However, Huawei still decided to adopt the notch design that many Android smartphone makers use, interestingly after the release of Apple’s iPhone X.
Meanwhile, the Honor 10 GT’s differences from the base Honor 10 model are few but important, although these are still centered on the newer device’s selling point, the 8GB RAM. A memory capacity of this level will let smartphone users perform demanding operations like heavy gaming without worrying about a lagging handset.
Huawei's upcoming GPU Turbo tech is also a good complement to the Honor 10 GT's RAM. The software-based GPU boost is currently in beta. It is promised to boost the graphics performance of Honor 10 devices by 60 percent but lower the power usage by 30 percent.
For now, the Honor 10 GT is only confirmed for the Chinese market. With a bigger RAM, the Honor 10 GT is priced at 2,599 yuan or around $390.
