South Korea-based Hanwha Systems has secured registration as a facility-based communications operator from the Ministry of Science and ICT, following a rigorous screening process. This milestone positions the company to become a competitive force in the space internet sector, catering to military needs and business-to-business transactions. Leveraging high-speed, low-orbit networks, Hanwha aims to offer seamless connectivity across various platforms, reshaping how we connect and communicate digitally.
This newly acquired credential allows Hanwha Systems to actively participate in the satellite communications market actively, facilitating business-to-government and business-to-business (B2B) transactions. As a facility-based communications operator without line facilities, the company will proudly introduce space internet services featuring high-speed connectivity via low-orbit communications networks. Initial deployment of this network will be geared towards military applications.
Furthermore, Hanwha Systems is diligently working on a comprehensive blueprint to establish seamless connectivity across the battlefield. By leveraging real-time data detected by synthetic-aperture radar satellites, using low-orbit satellite communications and ground networks, the company aims to ensure the sharing of on-site situational data. This development will greatly enhance military operations.
In addition to military applications, Hanwha Systems aspires to offer B2B communication services for various platforms such as aircraft, sea vessels, trains, vehicles, and urban air mobility aircraft (UAM). The company has already installed satellite communication antennas in remote areas, overcoming the challenges of limited internet access at sea, in the air, and isolated regions. Furthermore, Hanwha Systems continues to invest in cutting-edge technology, such as electronically steered antennas, which provide stable 24-hour space internet service via low-orbit satellites.
Hanwha Systems is also actively involved in developing advanced onboard processors and inter-satellite links. These innovative technologies enable direct communication between terminals, eliminating the dependence on ground stations for uninterrupted connectivity.
Hanwha Systems made a substantial investment of US$300 million in 2021, acquiring an 8.8 percent stake in London-based satellite communications company, OneWeb. Exploiting the satellite networks of OneWeb, Hanwha Systems aims to provide reliable satellite internet services to its esteemed customers. OneWeb, with its 634 satellites orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 1,200 kilometers, intends to launch its global satellite internet service later this year, as confirmed by Hanwha Systems.
As an expert in developing military communications systems, Hanwha Systems sets its sights on constructing its own low-Earth orbit satellite communication networks for military purposes. Additionally, the company plans to extend its satellite internet system to business clients, catering to their specific needs in aviation, shipping, automotive, and urban air mobility.
In conclusion, Hanwha Systems emerges as a key player in the ever-evolving field of satellite communications. With its relentless pursuit of innovation, the company is well-positioned to revolutionize how we connect and communicate digitally.
