Hankook Tire & Technology Co., Ltd. has inked a deal with the Toyota Group to supply tires for the latter's Hino Motors truck models. The South Korean tire manufacturer will provide two types of tires to the Japanese automaker's commercial vehicle manufacturing subsidiary.
Tire Models for Toyota's Hino Vehicles
Hankook Tire will deliver its medium and long-distance tires designed for heavy-duty use to Hino Motors, which will then install them on its best-selling mid-sized truck. According to The Korea Economic Daily, the tires are set to be used for the Hino L Series commercial vehicles.
The agreement states that the tiremaker supplies its medium- and long-distance truck and bus radial tire (TBR) products, AH37 and DL11. Hankook Tire promises exceptional durability, superb fuel efficiency, and good mileage with these two models.
Additionally, the AH37 is designed to lessen rolling resistance, directly related to the truck's fuel efficiency, resulting in improved fuel savings. Hino is using this type for its L6 and L7 trucks.
Certification in the U.S. for EPA
Korea's Mail Kyeongje reported that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or EPA also granted Hankook Tire's AH37 and DL11 a SmartWay certification. The agency only gives this to environmentally friendly and high-efficiency energy products. The tires also boast Hankook's 3D system technology, which is applied to the products to deliver excellent traction and prolong the life of tires.
"Hankook Tire will continue to strengthen its research and development (R&D) capabilities targeting local commercial vehicle customers and accelerate its efforts to target the North American commercial vehicle tire market by launching products with cutting-edge TBR technology such as 'SmartFlex' and 'SmartLine,'" Hankook Tire said in a press release.
The company added, "Hankook Tire is steadily strengthening its partnership with the Toyota Group by expanding its supply of tires for new vehicles with various models. Since 2011, we have been supplying new car tires to best-selling models such as Camry, Avalon, Corolla, and Sienna, and last year, we expanded our portfolio to the Toyota brand's first pure electric SUV 'bZ4X', proving our top-level tire technology."
