A researcher at Google recently promised that some details that can help jailbreak the latest lineup of iPhones would be provided, which caught the internet’s attention. Now, he is delivering on this promise by releasing the information to the public with regards to bypassing security on iOS 11.1.2. After this, it would up to the enterprising hackers on the web to turn the data into full-blown iPhone madness.
The researcher in question is Ian Beer who works at Google’s security division called Project Zero. Part of his job is to find security flaws in devices and services. After discovering those flaws, the respective companies or developers would then be informed and they will have 90 days to address the issue before the details are released to the public.
In a recent Tweet, Beer provided a link to the iOS exploit he promised. The code that was released pertains to security flaws in version 11.1.2 of Apple’s OS, which were supposedly fixed on December 2nd.

After releasing the data, hackers rushed in to start working on creating the jailbreak for the latest iPhones in the market, Gizmodo reports. This is important to note because as far as Beer’s culpability in the creation of the key to unlocking the devices goes, the data he released was purely for research purposes.
Right now, the only people who can actually mess around with their iPhones to add or remove features that would have been an issue for Apple are those with the right expertise. More than that, the devices would have to be connected to their computers for the process to actually work.
It will require some talented individuals to turn this cluster of code into workable programs that can be downloaded to anyone’s iPhone in order to jailbreak the smartphone. A lot of people are already working on this, however, so it should just be a matter of time.
