‘Gilmore Girls Actress Alexis Bledel Hints at Possible Netflix Reboot with More Episodes, Melissa McCarthy Refuses to Return as Snookie

‘Gilmore Girls’ actress Alexis Bledel hinted at a possible Netflix reboot with more episodes during a recent interview. Meanwhile, Melissa McCarthy admitted that she wouldn’t return as Snookie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bledel appeared before a panel for her upcoming Hulu drama ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ She was asked about the future of the comedy-drama television series that follows Lorelai and her daughter Rory as they navigate through life and relationships.  Bledel responded, "We want to tell a great story… [A Year in the Life] came together so naturally, in a way. We had the fan reunion in Austin [at the ATX Television Festival] and we picked up momentum from there and it came together so quickly and it really seemed like the right thing.”

She continued, “I think most of us are just wanting to tell a good story, and I think that came together in A Year in the Life. The only thing I can say about a future installment of the show is it would be about the story and certainly the timing."

‘Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life’ was a four-part mini-series intended as the continuation to the comedy-drama ‘Gilmore Girls’ that aired from 2000-2007. It aired on Netflix on November 25, 2016. The revival featured four 90-minute episodes entitled “Winter”, “Spring”, “Summer”, and “Fall.”

The recent revival’s final episode ended in a cliffhanger with Rory (Alexis Bledel) breaking the news of her pregnancy to her mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham). The identity of the father of her unborn child remains a mystery and this fueled speculation that a series reboot may be in the works at Netflix. The possible reboot is rumored to address the identity of the father of Rory’s child.

Despite the speculations, Bledel admitted, "I haven’t heard anything… It hasn’t been a conversation as of yet." When asked about the father of Rory’s child, the actress explained, “It all lives in Amy's [Sherman-Palladino] imagination… She has a very clear vision and always has, and we haven’t had input as to the story or the characters on that show very much. On Year in the Life, we did a little bit more than the original run of the show, but it really is all Amy."

Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino revealed during a previous interview, "We pitched this as close-ended. We pitched it as: 'This is the year in the life. This is the way it was ending… Netflix and Warner Bros., we all went into this sort of saying that this was it. So there really haven't been any more discussions about 'Is there going to be anything else?' I don't know."

Meanwhile, Melissa McCarthy admitted that she didn’t want to reprise her role as Snookie in possible future installments during an interview with ET. The 46-year old actress, writer, and comedian returned as chef Snookie St. James for the revival but joked that she would rather return as Lorelai should the series return on the small screen. She said, "No [I wouldn't come back as Sookie], but I would come back as Lorelai... And that is a challenge to Lauren Graham."

‘Gilmore Girls’ is an American comedy-drama television series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino that debuted on The WB on October 2000. Netflix aired a four-part miniseries, titled ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,’ last November 2016 and followed the characters through one of the four seasons.
