The addition of story expansion set on a new island is possibly one of the most anticipated parts of “Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.” With only a few weeks left before launch, Sucker Punch let fans in on more details on how Jin Sakai’s story will continue and how the new location, Iki Island, ties to his past.

What to expect in Iki Island

Jin will set out on his new mission in “Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut” upon hearing that a Mongol tribe has started to dominate on Iki Island. Sucker Punch describes the new location as a “lawless land,” fans should expect Jin to encounter a host of new opponents, such as pirates, smugglers, and mad monks. However, the main adversary appears to be the leader of the Mongol tribe that invaded the island, which is also a revered shaman named Ankhsar Khatun, commonly known as “the Eagle.”

Per Sucker Punch’s description, saving Iki Island is immensely important to stop the Mongols from further expanding their invasion of Japan. But Jin’s arrival on the island is also going to expand the story about the main protagonist beyond what was revealed in the original “Ghost of Tsushima” plot.

The developer confirmed that the new stories would offer more details about the Sakai clan as this is not the first time Jin is setting foot on Iki Island. Aside from new stories, players are likely to learn new combat moves in the “Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut” expansion as Sucker Punch hints at “new techniques to learn.”

“Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut” will also offer new areas to explore through the Iki Island expansion. Sucker Punch also confirmed that players would be able to pet various kinds of wildlife. With all the action Jin is bound to face, this feature should offer a nice break as the developer confirms animals like cats, deers, and monkeys can be tamed and pet.

‘Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut’ release date, pricing

“Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut” will be released on Aug. 20. Players who already purchased the original version of PS4 can get an upgrade for $19.99. New fans can buy the director’s cut with the base game for $59.99 on PS4 and $69.99 on PS5.
