Startup Battlefield is one of the biggest tech conferences which is organized by TechCrunch every year. It gives the emerging entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their products to venture capitalists, investors, and media and also offers a chance to win massive cash prizes too ($100,000 and $50,000 at Disrupt SF and Disrupt Berlin this year, respectively).
Startup Battlefield started in 2011 and even as applications are open for TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2019, it’s noteworthy that the platform has helped some of the most innovative startups that have participated in the past to rise up and get the attention they deserve in the industry. For instance, there have been small startups like Tailor Brands and 6sensorlabs that have blossomed into giant companies and are now disputing their industries today because of the recognition they got from the event. While Tailor Brands is allowing other startups and small business owners to enjoy premium but affordable branding services with artificial intelligence technology, 6sensorlabs is empowering the users to learn about their food to make informed decisions about their nutrition.
What to Expect This Year?
TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2019 is going to be quite interesting considering that the annual event has a long history of discovering some of the most talented minds and disruptive technologies across the globe.
This year, over 400 press outlets are going to attend the event and there will be all kinds of interactive workshops and companies participating from industries like gaming, fintech, mobility, machine learning, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and space.
Experts believe that of all the categories, the most interesting one will be space this year. This is because while we have seen many startups in the mobile and fintech domain in the past, we haven’t seen much in the domain of space. Now that a new enthusiasm has been injected in this important industry, especially by giants like SpaceX that lowered costs and reduced barriers to space, we can look forward to new startups making their own contributions.
Gearing Up
If you are interested in participating in Startup Battlefield this year or know someone who is going to, then the following tips are for you:
- Presentation will play a huge role in your success at the event. Even if your product is simply top-notch, you need to know the rules for the perfect pitch before you present to venture capitalists.
- Your presentation slides should be timed in a perfect manner. They should follow the speaker’s words which this can be done in the best way possible if there is someone else other the speaker manning the laptop.
- Be sure to do your homework. When you are asked questions by the judges, then you should be able to answer without stuttering or taking help from your smartphone.
- Take your time with the script and practice as many times as you need to make it perfect. Remember, you will not get a second chance to make the first impression.
Whether you are a tech journalist or an entrepreneur, TechCrunch Disrupt is an event where you can learn a lot about the new trends in the startup industry and network with other brilliant and like-minded individuals. So, if you have never attended this inspiring event before, then it's strongly recommended that you give it a shot this year.
