France’s consumer prices increased in July 2026, with both monthly and annual inflation measures showing upward movement, according to final data released Friday by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE).
The European Union-harmonised consumer price index (HICP), a key measure used to compare inflation across EU member states, reached 103.00 in July. The index rose 0.6% compared with the previous month, while France’s annual harmonised inflation rate stood at 2.4%.
The latest figures provide an important indication of inflationary pressures in France and the wider eurozone economy. The harmonised CPI is closely monitored by economists, investors and policymakers, including the European Central Bank, when assessing price trends and monetary policy conditions across the currency bloc.
Meanwhile, France’s national consumer price index (CPI) came in at 102.68 in July. Consumer prices increased 0.6% month-on-month and were 2.1% higher compared with July 2025, according to the final INSEE inflation data.
The national CPI measures changes in the prices of goods and services purchased by households and remains a closely watched gauge of the cost of living in France. The latest reading indicates that consumer prices continued to rise on both a monthly and annual basis during July.
France’s CPI excluding tobacco products also recorded an increase. The index reached 102.67, representing a 0.6% rise from June and a 2.1% increase from the same month a year earlier.
Overall, the July inflation figures show that France’s harmonised inflation rate remained higher than the annual increase recorded by the national CPI. With the HICP rising 2.4% year-on-year and the national CPI advancing 2.1%, the latest INSEE data will remain relevant for markets assessing France’s inflation outlook and broader eurozone price developments.
