With “Fortnite Android” not being downloadable via the Google Play Store, one of the biggest concerns that mobile experts had was with regards to security. As it turns out, this fear has already been realized, with the app coming with a troubling security flaw. The security hole is bad enough to expose players to some critical malware hazards.
When playing “Fortnite Android,” the last thing that players would want to happen is for their mobile devices to become infected with malware. Unfortunately, this is a real risk that gamers take when they use the app’s installer, Forbes reports. The problem involves other apps that also have WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission, which could allow them to install malware.
This is made possible because the simple act of installing the APK files necessary to play “Fortnite Android” would, by necessity, involve disabling some security features. Such things are usually highly discouraged because even a brief window of vulnerability can result in malware infections of devices.
That is why the situation with “Fortnite Android” is so troubling. With the game being so popular and with so many users being bound to download and install it, malicious individuals are expected to act. One of the ways they can do so is by taking the opportunity to spread as much malware as they can through their apps, which could then piggy-back on the access that Epic Games’ app has.
As TechCrunch reports, however, a fix for the “Fortnite Android” flaw was immediately worked out as soon as the developers were notified of its existence. On the other hand, it was quite noticeable that Google did not accommodate the request to wait 90 days before disclosing the information, as Epic requested. Though the company mentioned that this was a matter of policy, it still encouraged the outlook that Google was trying to warn other developers of similar treatment.
