Former Gangster Described the New Life he Found With The Way to Happiness at Scientology Information Center

CLEARWATER, Fla., May 18, 2017 -- On Monday the 15th of May, 40 people gathered in the Scientology Information Center, downtown Clearwater for a presentation from a former gangster, Errol.  The manager of the Center, Amber Skjelset said, “We were all riveted to Errol’s story of shootings, robbery and prostitution, where the drug dealer is looked up to and prison or the grave the final destination for most.”   Errol told the audience that at 23 and his third time in prison with a 15 year sentence yawning before him, he saw his future in the face of an old convict, riddled with debauchery, crime and regret.  Errol said, “I don’t want to be like that.”

Errol relayed how the next chapters of his life read differently.  Early release for good behavior, a change of environment and friends, Errol told of his redemption in Clearwater and a little book a kind woman gave to him - The Way to Happiness.   

L. Ron Hubbard wrote the non-religious, non-political guide to better living, The Way to Happiness in the 1970’s after visiting New York City and seeing what had become of that vibrant city.  “Your survival is important to me,” reads the opening page of the book and from there 21 precepts point the way.  Precepts such as:  “Don’t do anything Illegal”; “Do not Steal”; “Be Worthy of Trust” are elucidated in the book.

A study conducted by the U.S. Department of Corrections Florida prisons shows that 27.6 percent of inmates return to prison within three years of release. 

But as Errol told his audience, he was able to break free from prison’s  revolving doors, “Now I have a new life and a new family that looks out for me. I feel that it is only going to get better.  In my pursuit of happiness, it often escaped me.  I finally found the key and now I want to share it with you.”
