SAN MATEO, Calif., Nov. 08, 2016 -- Farsight Security, Inc., provider of the world’s largest real-time DNS threat intelligence, today announced that Merike Käo, global information security expert and Chief Technology Officer for Farsight Security, Inc., will present, “Mapping Adversary Infrastructure Using DNS” on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the O’Reilly Security Conference at RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The presentation will take place at 2:10 PM CET in Room G104/105.
Farsight Security is a sponsor for this event and will demonstrate its flagship solution, DNSDB, the world’s largest historical Passive DNS database, and latest Passive DNS solutions at booth #414.
In her presentation, Ms. Käo will discuss the latest threat landscape, including some recent IoT DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, and how incident responders, security analysts, and other cyber professionals use real-time global Passive DNS observations to significantly improve the accuracy and response time to today’s cyberattacks around the world.
“Counterfeiters, scammers and other criminals routinely abuse the Domain Name System (DNS) to commit fraud, phishing attacks, and other cyber attacks. Virtually every cybercrime involves IP addresses or domain names. Using Farsight’s Passive DNS database, DNSDB, analysts can take a single domain name and IP address and uncover previously hidden criminal infrastructures. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge about today’s threat landscape and how Passive DNS can be used to reduce risk to organizations,” said Ms. Käo.
In her presentation, Ms. Käo will cover:
- Specific examples of malware scams, including targeted phishing campaigns and counterfeiting legitimate businesses
- The correlation of IP addresses and domain names to map malware campaigns
- Actionable intelligence provided by newly observed domain names
- How DNS changes can be used to alert SOC analysts to potential criminal behavior
- The value of combining Passive DNS and WHOIS information for deeper intelligence
