Facebook on Thursday rolled out Photo Magic feature on Messenger that will simplify sharing photos this holiday season. Indian Express explains that using image-recognition technology, the feature will automatically address a message so that it can be sent quickly to Facebook friends identified in a picture.
“Now in Messenger, after you take a picture of a friend or group of friends, if you want to, we’ll help you send it immediately. Photo Magic will help you keep your promise to send the pictures you take without forgetting, or worse, leaving someone out”, Peter Martinazzi, Director of Product Management, and Lexy Franklin, Product Manager said in an online post.
Moreover, users are in full control and can turn the feature off at any time and even control being identified in their friends’ photos in the timeline and tagging section of their Facebook settings.
To activate the feature users need to go to “Settings” menu in Messenger – they will be asked to try Photo Magic, to which they can opt for “Try It” or choose to “X” it out. Once enabled, users will get a reminder to send the photo they have taken with their friends. Facebook says that the photo will not be sent unless a user taps Send. If they choose not to share the photo, they need to hit “Cancel”.
“By recognizing your Facebook friends in the photos you take (just like when tagging or sharing photos on Facebook), Messenger can create a group thread for you to share the photos with those friends in just two taps. It’s fast, easy, and simple”, Facebook said in an online post.
In addition, Facebook also rolled out “fun ways” to customize their conversations that includes various color choices, emoji and nicknames. The social networking giant also brought back the “snow globe effect” for chat heads on Android.
