Epic Games recently made headlines for the wrong reasons, which involved filing lawsuits against cheaters in its game, Fortnite Battle Royale. One of these lawsuits was against a 14-year-old, which the mother tried to throw out with a letter. The company has since responded, saying that some of what she is accusing the company of is actually her fault.
One of the lawsuits that Epic Games had filed is actually dealt with. The defendant was Charles Vraspir, a.k.a. “Joreallean,” who the company accused of not only creating multiple accounts to cheat but also creating the cheat, Attack Of The Fanboy reports.
For now, Vraspir was only given a slap on the wrist with the company simply giving him an injunction. This means that he is not allowed to create, distribute, or use any kind of cheats on any of Epic’s properties ever again. If he is found to have violated this injunction, he will be fined with $5,000, which is actually a lot cheaper than the $150,000 that copyright infringement fines usually go for, Gamasutra reports.
Now that Vraspir has been dealt with, the company is turning its attention to the 14-year-old cheater who decided that it was a good idea to post his session on Battle Royale while cheating on YouTube. Epic released a letter stating how the cheater’s mother was the one who exposed the personal information of her son with the unredacted letter that she sent.
This crushes her argument that the company had supposedly gone after her son while knowing that he was a minor. The company says that it could not have known the age of the defendant and argues that the mother was the one who broke the law by exposing her son’s personal details. Epic also says that it is staying the course, which will likely result in another settlement.
