Ediya Coffee, a South Korean coffeehouse chain, is introducing the Taiwan Pay QR-code payment option in Korea. The company said it is adopting this method to attract more Taiwanese customers in the country.
Ediya Coffee said on Tuesday, April 30, that the Taiwanese QR mode of payment called TWQR is set to be activated in May. Yonhap News Agency reported that this is the first time that a local coffee chain is offering the TWQR system in Korea, which has been added for the convenience of Taiwanese visitors.
What is TWQR and How It Works
The TWQR is a popular mobile payment method in Taiwan, and payments are made through QR codes. Ediya Coffee will use this for its stores across South Korea.
TWQR will allow Taiwanese visitors to pay for their purchases at Ediya Coffee without the need to exchange their local currencies for Korean won. They can simply download the payment app and easily pay by scanning the provided QR in the stores.
Accommodating the Taiwanese Visitors
As per The Korea Economic Daily, starting May 1, all Taiwanese visitors may pay for their drinks and other menu items at Ediya Coffee through the Taiwan Pay app. Ediya Coffee also revealed its plans to introduce more global pay services and make them available in its stores across the nation. This is to accommodate the rapidly increasing number of foreign tourists who have surged after the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic were lifted.
According to the report, Taiwanese visitors to the country reached 306,000 in the first quarter of this year. This is a 109% increase compared to the same period in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic struck.
“We have introduced Taiwan Pay to increase convenience for Taiwanese tourists visiting Ediya Coffee and to revitalize sales at affiliated stores,” an official of Ediya Coffee said in a statement. “We will continue to strive to increase customer convenience through various services.”
