Fans who got hooked with the bizarre love triangle in “Domestic Girlfriend” likely have two major questions at this point. Is “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 getting released? If so, will they ever see Natsuo falling love with Rui eventually? The latter is much easier to answer.
'Domestic Girlfriend' season 2 plot: What happens to Rui and Natsuo with Hina gone
The story arcs covered in season 1 were enough to excite fans and demand for “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2. Note, though, that the animated scenes have barely scratched the surface. There are so many things happening to Natsuo, Hina, and Rui beyond what was covered in the first season of the anime. Meanwhile, fans who strongly refuse to read the manga series should note that the following paragraphs will contain major spoilers.
Rui is probably the character who gets the biggest development arc in the stories that would be covered in “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2. The first season concluded with Rui implying she will make more efforts to win Natsuo's heart, and she will deliver on that aspect.
However, as Natsuo pursues his writing career, Rui also finds her path. Several scenes in season 1 showed her abilities as a cook. If “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 happens, fans should expect her to decide she wants to become a chef.
This ambition leads to Rui living away from Natsuo so she could start her training. The distance will help Natsuo realize his feelings and eventually fall for his younger step-sister. But before Team Rui fans get too excited, note that their relationship is also doomed to fail. Some manga readers were even comparing the premises of their separation with Natsuo’s breakup with Hina.
'Domestic Girlfriend' season 2 renewed or canceled
The question about the release of “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 is a web that is more difficult to untangle. Producers have yet to show any sign that they plan to renew the animated series.
It also does not help when many online forum threads suggest “Domestic Girlfriend” season 2 is unlikely getting released. Fans who first followed the series through the manga versions were upset with how the pacing of the story was purportedly rushed. But it has also led to conclusions that there are no plans for a second season.
