Dan Caldwell Joins ODNI After Pentagon Leak Investigation Clearance

Dan Caldwell Joins ODNI After Pentagon Leak Investigation Clearance.

Dan Caldwell, a former senior adviser to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, has landed a new role at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) following his clearance from a Pentagon leak investigation, two U.S. officials confirmed Monday.

Caldwell was removed from his Pentagon position earlier this year after being placed on administrative leave over allegations of unauthorized information disclosure. Reuters initially broke the story of his removal, which involved being escorted out of the Pentagon building. Caldwell, along with two other former Pentagon officials, publicly pushed back against the accusations, calling them baseless and dismissing the unnamed sources behind the claims as making slanderous attacks.

After a thorough review found no evidence of wrongdoing, Caldwell is now set to join the ODNI in an advisory capacity. According to The New York Times, his new position will involve supporting senior intelligence officials who oversee coordination across multiple federal agencies, including those responsible for preparing President Donald Trump's Presidential Daily Brief, one of the most sensitive intelligence documents in the U.S. government.

An administration official clarified that Caldwell has yet to formally begin his duties, noting his role will be largely administrative in nature. ODNI emphasized its rigorous vetting process in a public statement, confirming that all new hires undergo extensive background reviews, including record checks and personal interviews conducted by trained officials to assess trustworthiness and national security risk.

Caldwell's appointment has drawn renewed attention to his previously controversial foreign policy views. Critics have labeled his positions isolationist, while supporters argue his outlook reflects a more focused and realistic approach to American defense priorities.

His transition from Pentagon exit to an intelligence community role signals continued trust from the current administration in his capabilities and judgment.
