SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 22, 2018 -- Core Mobility Solutions, a new mobility device manufacturer, today announced the first commercial launch of the LifeGlider™ at the American Physical Therapy Association, Combined Sections Meeting (APTA CSM) annual conference. The LifeGlider is designed to enable safe, upright, hands-free mobility for those who struggle to walk safely, without fear of falling.

Millions struggle to walk safely and confidently, due to aging, muscle weakness, chronic neurological conditions, injury, surgery, or other causes. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four Americans aged 65+ falls each year. According to the National Council on Aging, “Falls, with or without injury, also carry a heavy quality of life impact. A growing number of older adults fear falling and, as a result, limit their activities and social engagements. This can result in further physical decline, depression, social isolation, and feelings of helplessness.”
A significant improvement over traditional walkers, the LifeGlider is unique among assistive devices in that its built-in seat and security belt provide four points of contact around the pelvis; Rather than the user holding the device, the device holds the user. This novel design reduces the risk of falling, allows hands-free mobility, and reduces the cognitive load associated with manually managing a device. It also encourages proper gait, upright posture, and good balance. The LifeGlider can be used indoors or outdoors in any ADA compliant environment.
The LifeGlider is suitable for home use by consumers and in clinical settings such as physical therapy offices, rehab centers, elder care facilities, and hospitals. In a physical therapy or rehabilitation environment, it can be used for gait training or therapeutic exercise and may reduce the need for staff to physically support patients and bear their weight.
Core Mobility Solutions CEO Kerry Pope states, “We are delighted to introduce this revolutionary device that will help so many who struggle to walk. After more than five years of development and hundreds of user tests, we believe the LifeGlider has the potential to facilitate activities of daily living, to enhance the dignity of those who struggle to walk, and to enable people to engage more fully in the things they love to do.”
