What’s old is gold. Well, if not all the time, then at least some of the time. There’s a reason why they have been established in the first place, right?
When it comes to promoting your business, there are a few tried and true ways that have been successful in getting your business out. They are by both commercials as well as signage in busy areas. In a country like India, where a major chunk of the population is yet to be digitized, there are a few time-tested ways to promote your business; even in rural and remote areas.
Top Traditional Marketing Strategies that still Work
Keep Facebook and Instagram ads, email marketing, and marketing in airports. Aside from these conventional methods, there are others that are efficient as well.
Here are some other “old school” marketing that still works:
1. Fliers and vinyl banners
Perhaps the most ancient way (other than marketing by word of mouth) is giving out fliers and banners. If you place a business banner strategically, there are high chances of active audience engagement. Repeated visibility of your business name and profile, along with the distribution of fliers to individuals, will ensure that no one forgets you. It is natural that, once they are acquainted with your business, they will go for it the next time they need a service or products.
2. Commercial advertising
This encompasses everything from newspapers and magazines, even TV and radio. Newspapers, magazines, TV, and radio are amazing ways to do marketing. It makes sense to fully utilize these mediums to get your voice out. By these, you have a wider reach of age than if you used only digital ads. The key is to make sure you have a call to action in your ad that you can track and know that your ad is getting the required ROI.
3. Direct marketing
This involves interaction with the masses on a more personal level. Digital marketing can be easily duplicated. Personal interaction is something highly unique to every business and a marketing technique that is designed to fit your individual business. This way, you not only ensure eventual word of mouth marketing, but you also secure long-term, loyal customers. Will an Instagram ad on their feed do the same? We don’t think so. This can be done through chambers of commerce, conferences, workshops, events, or trade shows like Exponents that specialize in trade show booths for businesses of all sizes. You really shouldn’t be missing out on this marketing if it matches your target market. If you are, you should rethink your priorities.
4. Outdoor advertising
We mean billboards, taxis, cars, buses, bus stops, trains, subways, and much more. Many people think that this is an outdated method of marketing. In reality, a person may forget to check their Facebook feed, but they’ll have to commute to work anyway. Considering that about 68% of people make their purchasing decisions outdoors, it is a great opportunity to tap into a large majority of people; a substantial per cent of which could be potential buyers. Depending on the location of the ad, you could even target a specific audience.
5. Collaborate with potential partners
This goes out to startups, especially, as it is an inexpensive method to widen, rather double, your reach instantly. When you collaborate with a partner, I.e. a company with similar work ethics and goals as yours, not only do you gain more insight into the way they function, but you get to reach out to their audience as well. It is inexpensive, effective, and mutually beneficial.
6. Pop-up stalls
You must admit, these haven’t lost their validity, even in this present date, where people are rushing from one place to another. These pop-up stands offer a lot of scopes to promote your business in more ways than one. Engage in activities, offer discounts if your business sells services or products. Make it your ground to attract people and engage actively. However, if you are not an established business yet, it’d make more sense to have small-term campaigns. These pop up stands help with exactly that.
In the present era of mob marketing (or mass marketing), don’t forget the importance of stabilizing the position of your business, so that it doesn’t get lost like a needle in a haystack. Choose to have more innovative ways of marketing, even if they are conventional. This will help you to stand out dramatically.
