JOHNSTOWN, Pa., April 12, 2016 -- Concurrent Technologies Corporation's (CTC's) Dr. Vicki A. Barbur, Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, will give a presentation on "CTC's Emerging Technologies: Minimizing the Environmental Footprint" at the American Sustainability Leadership Council's Sustainability Leaders INsights Series event being held on April 13, 2016, in Harrisburg, PA.
The INsight Series provides a peer-to-peer platform for launching diversified sustainability concepts, initiatives, products, services and collaboration. In addition to Dr. Barbur, the event will feature speakers multiple organizations, including the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Delaware River Basin Commission, and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
"CTC's Emerging Technologies and Innovation programs are focused on improving efficiency, efficacy, and operational outcomes," said Dr. Barbur. "We help clients implement solutions that improve performance while minimizing environmental lifecycle costs. As we innovate to meet key mission and economic objectives, we look to improve the management and utilization of water and energy resources, minimize waste generation, and reduce exposure to hazardous materials. We are specifically interested in the deployment of energy storage technologies that aid the use of renewable sources of energy."
CTC's latest technology, SYLAS-R2™, has been named a 2016 Edison Award winner for its ability to recycle and reuse greywater generated by institutional laundry and shower systems, significantly reducing impact on water resources and overburdened wastewater treatment facilities. SYLAS-R2 is efficient compared to other water recycling/reuse systems due to the unique design of an energy recovery device developed using CTC's advances in Additive Manufacturing and rapid prototyping. Previously, CTC was recognized with a 2013 Gold Edison Award for the Advanced Robotic Laser Coating Removal System (ARLCRS). ARLCRS uses a continuous wave laser to remove coatings from aircraft, replacing the abrasives or chemical paint removers used in traditional maintenance operations, which are labor intensive and generate significant hazardous wastes and air emissions.
CTC's scientists and engineers routinely direct their efforts to developing capabilities that aid in the development and implementation of sustainability solutions. For example, our capabilities in Big Data (Combine™) allow masses of data—structured and unstructured—to be analyzed speedily to extract patterns and trends that aid decision making; this has enormous potential to support complex trade-off analyses of environmental, social, economic, and performance factors. In addition, CTC's efforts directed toward Immersive Environments, which blur the line between the 'real' and the 'digital' world, provide novel means for collaboration, analysis, and training.
Founded in 2003, the American Sustainability Leadership Council is a private, industry-driven consortium that exclusively focuses on the economics and collaborative development of corporate and government sustainability programs, projects, products and initiatives.
