Can you imagine someone other than Chris Evans being Steve Rogers or more known as 'Captain America'?

The 38-year-old Evans recently revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he had said no when he was asked by the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to audition for the role of Captain America.

Prior to wielding the metal shield, Evans had acted as Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four movies; thus, MCU was familiar with him.

It is not though that Evans did not want to be Captain America. It was "anxiety" that made him outrightly refuse the role. It did not help that the role came with a deal that would lock him in with it for nine films.

According to Evans, he started having minor panic attacks while he was shooting the 2010 film Puncture. And, having that, he felt that it wouldn't be appropriate.

However, Marvel was undaunted by Evans’ refusal to audition for the role and directly offered him the part. Still, Evans did not accept it automatically.

He only accepted the role after a talk with Robert Downey, Jr., who jumpstarted the superhero movie franchise with his Ironman role.

RDJ basically told him not to let fear get in the way, and he was convinced. And, the rest was history as Evans not only wielded the metal shield for nine films but for a total of 10 Marvel pictures including three stand-alone movies for Captain America—The First Avenger in 2011, Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014 and Captain America: Civil War in 2016.

Other MCU films he appeared in were The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Captain Marvel (2019), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

And, the Avengers: Endgame may not be the last MCU film that we saw captain America as Evans himself hinted at the possibility of Captain America having a cameo in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Looking back at it, Evans said he does not regret his decision to take on the mantle of Captain America, adding that it was the best decision that he ever made. It also helped a lot that he found a comrade in Chris Hemsworth who also suffered anxiety being 'Thor.'
