Chicago Tribune and Hartford Courant Staff Named Finalists for 2018 American Society for News Editors Awards

CHICAGO, March 23, 2018 -- tronc, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRNC)- The American Society of News Editors (ASNE) today announced finalists for the 2018 ASNE Awards, including three journalists from two of tronc’s newspapers.

The Chicago Tribune’s Trish Callahan was named a finalist for the Frank A. Blethen Award for Local Accountability Reporting for her series, “Doomed by Delay”, examining how Illinois bureaucracy robbed parents of a chance to save their children from a deadly disease.

Tribune columnist Dahleen Glanton was named a finalist for the Mike Royko Award for Commentary/Column Writing. The Chicago Tribune has sponsored this award since 2013 in memory of legendary columnist Mike Royko, who died in 1997.

In addition, the Hartford Courant’s Carolyn Lumsden was also named a finalist for the Burl Osborne Award for Editorial Leadership for her four-part editorial series on the deteriorating foundations of homes in Connecticut's Quiet Corner.

In 2017, the Tribune’s Sam Roe, Karisa King and Ray Long, were finalists for ASNE’s O'Brien Fellowship Award for Impact in Public Service Journalism for their "Dangerous Doses" investigation exposing the failure of the nation’s pharmacies to adequately warn patients of potentially dangerous drug combinations.

Started in 1979, the ASNE Awards honor the best in print, digital, photo and video content in 10 categories.
