CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 11, 2016 -- Today, Bojangles’ (NASDAQ:BOJA) announced that its loyal customers at company and franchise-owned restaurant locations fundraised $608,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during Bojangles’ 15th-annual “Shamrocks Against Dystrophy” in-store campaign. The record-breaking donation surpasses the company’s previous mark of $584,689 raised last year. One hundred percent of the funds raised this year will support week-long MDA Summer Camp experiences for more than 745 children with neuromuscular disease.
From March 4 through March 20, Bojangles’ customers at all company-owned and participating franchise locations were invited to support the MDA through purchasing a $1 or $5 shamrock. Each purchased shamrock was endorsed by the customer and displayed in the store dining area or kitchen. Customers who purchased shamrocks also received a coupon for a free Bo-Berry biscuit – the delicious Bojangles’ buttermilk biscuit with sweet Bo-Berries baked inside and lightly drizzled with sweet vanilla icing – as a token of gratitude for their donation.
“Bojangles’ is a proud, long-time supporter of the MDA and their lifesaving research on treatments for neuromuscular diseases,” said Bojangles’ President and CEO, Clifton Rutledge. “Our partnership with the MDA is built into the fabric of our company, and we are so thankful that our generous customers share this same passion for finding a cure and providing children across the Southeast with the week of a lifetime at MDA Summer Camp. These children are so inspirational and this fundraiser is very meaningful to all of us at Bojangles’.”
MDA Summer Camp offers a wide range of activities specifically designed for children who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. Camp activities include artwork, fishing, horseback riding and swimming. These programs are conducted in a casual setting that gives campers an opportunity to promote self-confidence and build long-lasting friendships. Nine MDA Summer Camps across the Southeast, including camps near Charlotte, N.C.; Winston-Salem, N.C.; Atlanta, Ga.; and Greenville, S.C. will benefit from the donations.
“MDA is grateful to have the support of Bojangles’ and thousands of their caring customers,” said MDA of Charlotte Executive Director, Amy Meyers. “We always look forward to partnering with Bojangles’ and their store teams on the Shamrocks Against Dystrophy fundraiser. These funds will ensure that children across the Southeast will have tremendous and life-changing camp experiences this summer.”
Over 18 years, Bojangles’ has raised more than $5 million for the MDA through the company’s Shamrocks Against Dystrophy fundraiser and the MDA Golf Classic, which takes place every September. Through the generous support of customers, Bojangles’ was recently named one of the MDA’s top-10 fundraising partners.
