South Korean battery maker LG Energy Solution Ltd. shipped 26.4 gigawatt-hour (GWh) equivalents of electric vehicle (EV) batteries in the first 11 months of the year to account for 22.6 percent of the global market and be ranked as the world's second-biggest supplier.
Other South Korean players Samsung SDI Co. and SK Innovation Co. took were fourth and fifth places.
The combined market share by the three South Korean battery makers doubled to 33.9 percent from last year.
LG Energy Solution spun off from LG Chem Ltd. earlier this month.
China's CATL supplied 24.4 GWh equivalents for a 24.2 global market share, thereby maintaining its leading position.
The third spot went to Japan's Panasonic, which had a 19.2 percent share.
LG, CATL, and Panasonic all supply lithium-ion batteries to Tesla, the world's No. 1 EV maker.
Samsung SDI supplies its batteries to Audi and BMW, while SK Innovation batteries power Kia Motors and Mercedes Benz.
