The Apple Watch iterations in recent years have become more health-focused when it comes to introducing new features. However, it is still missing out on one important function, and that is to have a native sleep tracking system. Can Apple Watch 5 be the answer to that?
Apple Watch 5’s top rumored feature: Native sleep tracking app
Almost all smartwatches in the market became more of health-friendly wearable devices instead of just adapting smartphone functions to something that is worn on the wrist. Smartwatches started by simply helping users track their steps or measure their daily runs to something that can monitor their heart rate.
Apple may be missing out on the sleep tracking system, but it became the first to incorporate an FDA-approved ECG app on a watch in Apple Watch 4 last year. With constantly growing competition, Apple might want to further widen the gap by introducing new features on the Apple Watch 5.
SleepWatch points out that, even though the latest Apple Watch does not have a native sleep tracking system, it is equipped with all the necessary sensors to carry out the task. This means that Apple Watch 4 can be used to track one’s sleep, but they have to do it by installing third-party apps.
On the other hand, if Apple Watch 4 already has the needed hardware components for a sleep tracking system, what is stopping Apple from introducing its sleep-focused app? The answer could be, nothing. This is why an Apple-developed sleep tracking feature is one of the most rumored additions in Apple Watch 5.
Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that Apple is already testing its sleep monitor technology. However, it was also reported that the earlier possible release of a fully functioning app could be in 2020. So there is still a chance that the Apple Watch 5 will need third-party apps.
Apple Watch 5 specs: Better battery is underway?
Since a sleep monitor system requires the wearable device to be powered on through the night, the Apple Watch 5 will also need a bigger battery to do the job. And CNET reports that some sources claim that the company is planning on making Apple Watch 5 last longer than its predecessor.
Apple Watch 5 release date
A new Apple Watch iteration has also become part of the company’s annual product launch every September. It is then possible for the Apple Watch 5 to be revealed in fall.
