Android Q Release Date, Features: System-Wide Dark Mode, Live Captions Among the New Additions of Upcoming Update

The upcoming Android Q update is set to ease the friction between users and device as it’s going to have several key features that would surely please millions of people. First up is the dark mode theme, WIRED reported.

After lagging for a while, Google will be introducing a system-wide dark mode feature that will provide several advantages once Android Q is officially released. Among these advantages is improving a handset’s battery life, particularly those that have OLED display.

With the dark mode activated, only the white display on the device will consume power, and the black areas will not. This upcoming Android Q feature will also provide respite for tired eyes as it will be easing the strain through brightness muting.

Another feature that’s set to create convenience for users is Live Captions. As its name suggests, Live caption is a feature that will provide subtitles to videos viewed on a smartphone. Internet access will not be needed for this as the device’s AI is responsible for creating the texts in real time, which means it’ll also work for content personally created by users. This Android Q feature has been made to accommodate those with hearing problems but will undoubtedly benefit everyone as a whole.

New gesture commands will be introduced as well. The third public beta of Android Q showed that Google took inspiration from several sources, including Apple, Huawei, and Honor devices. For instance, swiping left or right on the edge of the screen will prompt the back command.

Swipe up the screen to take you to the home button. Swipe up and hold to access recently-used apps. Or swipe left or right to navigate through the stacked apps on the device. And for those who are asking, the Android Q will be available for Huawei users despite the recent trade war debacle between China and the United States, Evening Standard reported.

However, it’s important to remember that future Huawei devices like the Mate 30 series will miss out on key Google features such as Google Play, Maps, and Gmail apps. Regarding its official release date, the upcoming Android Q update will be available sometime in the fall.
