CHICAGO, Dec. 08, 2017 -- Allscripts (NASDAQ:MDRX) continues to lead the industry in innovation, interoperability, data sharing, and connectivity as it hits an industry leading milestone of one billion Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) data exchange transactions within 2017 – the most ever in a single year. For nearly 11 years, the company has facilitated open, connected care communities through its open platform, and its relationships with innovative entrepreneurs and with healthcare providers.
To date, the Allscripts Developer Program (ADP) has certified nearly 200 distinct applications and devices for its users, all currently available through the company’s application store. APIs help Allscripts clients rapidly implement and deploy innovative solutions developed by independent software developers. Allscripts clients also use the APIs for their own internal development and integration projects.
“We have dedicated significant resources to build a robust and agile development program and a company culture that makes data sharing possible and sparks innovation,” said Paul M. Black, Allscripts Chief Executive Officer. “To reach one billion data shares in one year is incredibly exciting for both Allscripts and the more than 6,600 developers using our APIs. It demonstrates that OPEN is working.”
Additional ADP statistics:
- 1,580 client activations of third-party API solutions as of October 31, 2017
- More than 3 billion API data shares since 2013
- An average of 12,000 unique visitors to the Allscripts Application Store site each month
“There is an industry-wide call for open health data exchange through APIs, which are a highly cost-effective approach to interoperability,” continued Black. “Allscripts has been leading the industry in this approach for more than a decade and we are pleased to see it is quickly becoming the norm as others embrace the simplification and value inherent in the use of APIs. Our leadership in this area has allowed us to elevate the interoperability conversation beyond doctor-to-doctor information exchange to the potential that exists in using APIs to maximize data sitting above the EHR for payers, caregivers and consumers.”
In 2018, the company will focus on expanding FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), SMART (Substitutable Medical Apps & Reusable Technology) and CDS Hooks into its core product portfolios, which will add more entry points for third parties to connect and exchange data with Allscripts clients.
“There is tremendous potential in the future of interoperability as more stakeholders follow Allscripts leadership in the area of APIs,” added Black. “Patients are using technologies developed using our APIs, as are healthcare providers and payers. We will continue investing in our Open ecosystem that is geared towards making data not only fluid but actionable at the point of care. It is very rewarding to support our clients in delivering better patient care and driving greater value.”
