It is 2018 and the games coming out for the PC are becoming incredibly demanding in terms of graphical capabilities. This is why asking questions like whether or not the AMD Vega GPU lineup is still worth getting now can be so important. On that note, it would appear that it is, especially when pitted against comparable GPUs like the Nvidia GeForce 1070.
Now, it’s worth point out that prices are still relatively high on the GPU market because of the whole crypto mining trend. However, costs have begun to normalize, which means that cards like the AMD Vega series might finally become less expensive. For now, though, it’s worth expecting that getting something like the AMD Vega 56 can still cost PC gamers around $500 or so.
As to whether or not it’s actually worth getting, especially with the consideration of the price, the YouTube channel HardwareCanucks actually asked that question in a video. As it turns out, yes, the AMD Vega is still worth getting in 2018.
There were also recent benchmark tests that showed how the GPU still performs quite well, even with some of the most demanding games at the highest graphical settings. On that note, there’s no denying that the AMD Vega does come with its own issues. For starters, the cards can be a bit on the pricey side, especially when compared with comparable GPUs offered by Nvidia.
In a recent benchmark, for example, Eurogamer showed how the AMD Vega 56 can still hit 42FPS when playing “The Witcher 3” at 4K. This is a better performance result than the GTX 1070, which only managed to hit 36FPS at 4K. Then again, the 1070Ti did beat the AMD Vega 56 at 1440p, at 82FPS and 73FPS, respectively.
When it comes right down to it, the AMD Vega GPUs still do have a place in the rigs of gamers even in 2018. They still offer decent performance at comfortably high settings and at price points that are not overly unreasonable considering the current market conditions.
