“13 Reasons Why” Season 2 Nearing Renewal? Writers’ Room Said To Be “Up And Running”

Although there is no official word yet on whether Season 2 for Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why,” recent activity seems to indicate that the series based on Jay Asher’s bestselling Young Adult book is set for a second installment, Elite Daily reported.

The latest sign for the show’s renewal came from a The Hollywood Reporter report, which said that a writers’ room is already “up and running for a few weeks,” according to unnamed sources. Netflix has yet to respond to the report. “13 Reasons Why,” for those who have yet to read the book or watched the series, is a youth drama surrounding the suicide of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), who explained her decision to kill herself a series of self-recorded tapes. The tapes opened discussion about suicide, bullying, and sexual assault.

The original book has no follow-up or installment, nor Asher himself has expressed doing so. But he has since supported the idea of fleshing out the stories of the characters. He said in an interview, "I’d just like a continuation of all those characters. I’m curious as well. What happens to Clay? How do people react to what Alex did at the very end? What’s going to happen to Mr. Porter? I’d thought of a sequel at some point. I’d brainstormed it, but decided I wasn’t going to write it. So I’d love to see it."

Earlier this week, actor Ross Butler, who played Zach Dempsey in “13 Reasons Why,” has been confirmed to have stepped down from his other famous role, Reggie Mantle, in The CW’s “Riverdale.” Although Butler did not say his reasons for leaving “Riverdale,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa points to the actor’s unavailability for him to flesh out the Reggie Mantle character in “Riverdale” Season 2. He said, “We love Ross. We struggled to cast a Reggie. We wish we could use him more. We used him as much as we got permission to do, and are going to fight to get even more of him in season two.”
