“iZombie” season 5 marks the end of the TV show loosely based on the comic book series of the same title created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred. The CW is looking to close the curtains on “iZombie” with a bang by adding NBA Hall of Fame inductee Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as one of the newest zombies.
Abdul-Jabbar joins the final season as the zombie named Zed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It is interesting how the NBA Hall of Famer’s character will be dealing with the main protagonist, Liv (Rose McIver), in “iZombie” season 5.
Zed is a member of the Seattle City Council and is one of the few who did not leave the place even after the wall was put up. Zed’s fellow city council member, on the other hand, is a human, thus creating a more interesting dynamic on how they view keeping the order of the city in “iZombie” season 5. Zed and Liv are likely going to interact at some point, especially with Peyton (Aly Michalka) assuming the position of her former boss and now dead city mayor.
Abdul-Jabbar is known for his several guest star roles before he was cast for “iZombie” season 5 such as co-pilot Roger Murdock in “Airplane!” in 1980. Abdul-Jabbar also signed up for a long list of cameo appearances as himself in movies and TV shows such as “Fletch,” “Full House,” “21 Jump Street,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “New Girl,” and more
Meanwhile, one of the most anticipated plots to be tackled in “iZombie” season 5 is about Liv and Major’s (Robert Buckley) love story. It can be recalled that Liv was forced to break up their engagement after she became a zombie.
Showrunner Rob Thomas previously said in a TVLine interview that there is nothing specific yet for Liv and Major’s love story. But they are hoping to make it “feel resolved” as “iZombie” season 5 also closes the TV series. “And that was always one of those things that you're going to hold in your back pocket until your final season and figure it out then," Thomas added.
Further discussing how the story ends in “iZombie” season 5, Thomas promised that fans are getting a clear closure “to the fate of zombie kind.” While nothing is set in stone yet at the time of the interview, Thomas did promise they will not pull a major cliffhanger like in “The Sopranos.”
As for “iZombie” season 5’s premiere date, The CW has already confirmed that it will not be happening in 2018. Digital Spy speculates it will air in February 2019, which is the same month as the penultimate season’s premiere this year.
