Several reports from notable sources and analysts have given Apple fans an idea of just how big the company’s plans are for its entire Mac family. However, new information coming from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that a new iMac Pro and Mac Pro are not planned to launch anytime this year.
Kuo, known for his oft-accurate predictions on future Apple products, posted some updates on Twitter on Sunday. In one tweet, the analyst suggests the iMac Pro and Mac Pro are more likely to enter the market sometime in 2023.
This is a stark difference from previous reports, including one prediction from display analyst Ross Young. The CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants previously updated their forecast moving the anticipated launch of a new iMac Pro from spring to summer of this year. Young said in late January, “We expect panel shipments from June, but the product may not launch till August or September.”
As we reported in today's DSCC Weekly, we no longer expect the Apple iMac Pro to launch in the spring. Looks more like summer. Still with a MiniLED backlight, but fewer MiniLEDs/zones than in iPad/MacBook Pro's.

In the same update, Young said the upcoming iMac Pro is expected to feature a mini-LED-backlit display that has fewer local dimming zones than the mini-LED panels on the 2021 iPad Pro and MacBook Pro.
Kuo also expects the Apple silicon-powered Mac Pro to ship sometime in 2023. This is another contrasting information from a previous leak by DylanDKT, who suggested that the premium workstation is one of the new Mac products lined up to launch later this year. The same leaker reported that the new Mac Pro would use a more powerful version of the M1 Max, which has a 10-core CPU, up to 32-core GPU, and can support up to 32GB unified RAM.
Another interesting bit of information from Kuo’s recent post mentions a new 27-inch external display. The analyst said it would be introduced at a lower price and will not use a mini-LED backlight solution. This followed a report from 9To5Mac last week about an upcoming “Studio Display” that has a 7K resolution.
It is also worth noting that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman mentioned in the latest Power On edition (via MacRumors) that Apple has finished developing an external display for several months now. However, it is unclear if Kuo, 9To5Mac, and Gurman were referring to the same product.
