While Apple fans wait for the company to announce when its spring launch event is happening, three new Macs have appeared to get certification from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). However, a reliable supply chain source maintains that the iMac Pro is unlikely to launch soon.
Three new Macs were listed at the EEC, as first spotted by Consomac. Similar to the usual certification listings, the recent discovery does not reveal much about the new registered Apple computers, aside from the devices’ model numbers, which are A2681, A2615, and A2686.
Upon running the screenshot of the document to a machine translator, it reveals that the Apple Mac with model number A2681 is described as a “portable personal computer.” The other two devices, A2615 and A2686, are both referred to as “Apple personal computers.” This lines up with previous rumors that Apple could unveil a new MacBook Air and new Mac desktop computers this year.
Considering the timing of the certification listings’ discovery, many have jumped to the conclusion that the three Mac devices could be lined up for announcement at Apple’s spring event. The certification listings have once again raised questions on the possible launch window of the highly anticipated new iMac Pro.
Display analyst Ross Young, who has made several accurate predictions and reports in the past, noted that the high-end all-in-one computer “could launch in June.” Young noted that there are conflicting claims on whether or not the next iMac Pro will have a mini-LED display. “But we hear around 1,000 [local dimming] zones and over 4,000 miniLEDs,” the analyst added.
It is worth noting that the next generation of MacBook Air has been rumored to be in the pipeline and is expected to be powered by the new M2 chipset. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the laptop might not enter production until late Q2 to Q3 of 2022. Meanwhile, a more recent report has claimed that Apple could be working on an updated MacBook Pro with the M2 chip that could be announced in spring.
There have also been reports that Apple is planning to launch a new 27-inch iMac powered by Apple silicon that will be sold alongside the existing 24-inch iMac. Note that tech companies typically register upcoming devices for certification in various regions months ahead of their intended release. While Apple is expected to hold a launch event in early March, some of the devices mentioned in the EEC might not be announced next month.
