John Michael Streicher

Dr. John Streicher is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Arizona. In his research program, Dr. Streicher investigates novel signaling regulators of the opioid receptors, and utilizes unique protein-receptor identified mechanisms for novel drug discovery, creating new painkillers without the unwanted side effects of opioids. Dr. Streicher's research has identified a novel role for Heat Shock Protein 90 as an opioid signaling regulator that can be used to enhance opioid efficacy, creating a first-in-class mu-delta opioid heterodimer antagonist for in vivo investigation, and similar work. Dr. Streicher has published more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and is engaged in numerous drug discovery campaigns to create new analgesics. Through his work he aims to uncover novel intracellular molecular signaling that regulates opioid and cannabinoid receptor function that will impact how we treat acute and chronic pain in the future.
