Henry Knight Lozano

Senior Lecturer in American Studies, Northumbria University, Newcastle

Henry is a historian of the United States and Senior Lecturer in American Studies at Northumbria University. He holds a PHD in American History from the University of Sussex, having previously completed an MPhil and a 1st class BA with Honours in American Studies (History) from the same university with a year at the University of California, San Diego. He is the author of several journal articles on the promotional and environmental histories of California and Florida and is the author of the 2013 book, "Tropic of Hopes: California, Florida, and the Selling of American Paradise, 1869-1929". The book won a Florida Book Award Gold Medal in 2014 and was the co-winner of the British Association of American Studies Arthur Miller Centre First Book Prize. He is currently working on a book manuscript that explores U.S. promotional visions and perilous ties that connected California and Hawaii from the Gold Rush to the Second World War.
