Associate Professor at the Center for Craniofacial and Dental Genetics, University of Pittsburgh
Dr. Seth Weinberg joined the School of Dental Medicine as faculty in the Department of Oral Biology in 2009. Prior to joining the faculty, he completed his graduate work in physical anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by postdoctoral training in neuroimaging at the University of Iowa. Dr. Weinberg also has a secondary appointment in the Department of Anthropology.
Dr. Weinberg’s research interests include the etiology of craniofacial birth defects, the genetic basis of human craniofacial variation, and the application of morphometrics and imaging to the study of complex craniofacial traits. Dr. Weinberg has served both principal and co-investigator on a number of collaborative research projects funded by the NIH. He led the effort to create the first web-based, publically available, large-scale repository of normal human 3D facial images and measurements (the 3D Facial Norms project) as part of the NIDCR’s FaceBase Consortium. In 2014, Dr. Weinberg and colleague Dr. Mary Marazita received an $11.8 million five-year grant to investigate the genetic basis of cleft lip/palate and related phenotypes. He currently serves as the director of the Facial Imaging and Morphometrics Lab within the Center for Craniofacial and Dental Genetics.
Dr. Weinberg’s primary teaching responsibilities include various courses in human gross anatomy for dental, medical, graduate and undergraduate students.
In terms of service, Dr. Weinberg is primarily interested in areas related to faculty affairs and issues surrounding the promotion of faculty and the protection of their rights. He serves on several school and university-level committees.
