Jaithri Ananthapavan is a Senior Research Fellow in Deakin Health Economics (DHE) and also leads the Economics of Obesity Stream within the Global Obesity Centre (GLOBE) at Deakin University. After several years working in health economics consulting in the UK, Jaithri’s academic career started in 2013 at Deakin University. Jaithri has a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours degree (1999) and a Master of Public Health degree (2005) both from The University of Melbourne. She is currently a part-time Doctor of Philosophy candidate at Deakin University. Jaithri's research focuses on the economic evaluation of obesity prevention interventions and in methods development to better assist decision makers in using economic evidence in investment decisions. She currently co-ordinates a large economic evaluation study for the NHMRC funded Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) in Obesity Policy and Food Systems. This significant program of work consists of a priority setting study evaluating the cost-effectiveness of multiple obesity prevention interventions. She is also leading a body of work developing frameworks for using cost-benefit analysis methods for the evaluation of prevention interventions beyond the health care sector.
