Following the conclusion of the 2019 NBA Draft, eyes have now shifted to the upcoming Summer League where Zion Williamson and the rest of his class will showcase their potential. The Summer League will start on July 5 and will end on July 15.
Through its course, Zion Williamson will be paired against several of the top 10 draft picks, including former Duke teammate R.J. Barrett. Barrett was third on the draft and was acquired by the New York Knicks.
Zion Williamson eager to showcase skills on NBA court
Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans will be taking on the Knicks on July 5. Following that, the team will be facing the Washington Wizards and number nine pick Rui Hachimura on July 6. July 8 will see the Pelicans battle it out against the Chicago Bulls and their new star Coby White who was number seven on the draft.
And on July 10, Zion Williamson will be tested by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the help of Dylan Windler and Kevin Porter Jr. Williamson is eager to show off his skills on the NBA floor, saying that the explosion of the three-point offense is a welcome system to his playstyle.
Zion Williamson says he can attack the rim on several angles
“I do like the spacing a lot more. (Defenders) can’t really (just) stand in the paint, so it gives me a lot more room to operate,” Zion Williamson said via the Pelican’s website. The 18-year-old had made a reputation for himself during his tenure at Duke when he accumulated highlight after highlight with every game he plays.
Numerous NBA analysts have touted Zion Williamson’s arrival as the new era for the league, with most pundits comparing him to LeBron James due to both players’ insane athleticism. At 285 pounds, Williamson is one of the heaviest player in the NBA, second only to Boban Marjanovic who’s listed at 291.
But seeing how he moves on the court, one wouldn’t think he weighs nearly 300 pounds. Zion Williamson can dunk with ease and snatch rebounds no problem. Most of his game revolves around attacking the rim, but he also said that he could score coming from the top and wing, as well as bully his way on the post. The 18-year-old said that he’s looking to showcase all of these when the Summer League starts, which is why a lot of his fans are looking forward to seeing him play on the fifth.
