‘XXX 3: Return of Xander Cage’ Unveils Trailer Featuring Vin Diesel Engaged in Extreme Stunts; First Look at Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose in Action

‘XXX 3: Return of Xander Cage’ recently unveiled its newest official trailer featuring returning actor Vin Diesel as the titular extreme sports enthusiast-turned-NSA spy. The trailer showed Diesel engaged in extreme stunts while offering the first look at Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose, and other new cast members in action.

According to E! News, Diesel revealed the first official trailer of his new film with director D.J. Caruso on his Facebook account. The trailer opened to Samuel L. Jackson’s Agent Augustus Gibbons saying, “You know they say the world is safer than it has ever been in the history of civilization. Do you feel safer today than you did yesterday? I know I don’t.”

He goes on to say against a background of an action-packed montage, “The world is changed. The war we’re fighting today needs a different kind of soldier.” Diesel’s Xander then makes an appearance skiing of what looks to be a transmissions tower. He then pummels through a dense jungle with those same skiis.

Diesel was first introduced as Xander Cage in the 2002 film ‘XXX’ directed by Rob Cohen. He skipped out of the second film ‘XXX: State of the Union’ and was replaced by Ice Cube as lead protagonist. The first film received mixed reviews but was considered a commercial success after grossing $277.45 million worldwide against a budget of $70 million as posted on Box Office Mojo. The sequel, however, was heavily panned by critics and underperformed at the box office after earning only $71.02 million on a production budget of $87 million.

Both Cohen and Diesel signed on for the sequel but eventually dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts with other films. Cohen stayed on as executive producer despite being busy with his military science-fiction action film ‘Stealth’.

A host of brand new characters are also introduced in the new trailer including Deepika Padukone’s Serena Unger, Ruby Rose’s Adele Wolff, and Nina Dobrev’s Rebecca. Toni Collette, Rory McCann, Donnie Yen, and Tony Jaa are also appearing in the new film.

‘XXX: Return of Xander Cage’ is an upcoming action thriller film scheduled to be released on January 20, 2017. It is directed by D.J. Caruso and written by F. Scott Frazier and Chad St. John.

It is produced by Maple Cage Productions, One Race Films, Rox Productions and Revolution Studios, and is distributed by Paramount Pictures in the United States.
