Woodbine becomes the first casino in Toronto to launch live table games

Source: The Star

Just two weeks ago, Casino Woodbine announced in a tweet, that it had successfully gained permits to launch the first ever live dealer games in the Great Toronto Area.

Woodbine casino is one of the three major properties owned by the entity One Toronto Gaming ("OTG"), which is a Partnership formed by Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TSX:GC) and Brookfield Business Partners L.P. (NYSE:BBU)(TSX:BBU.UN) to operate certain gaming facilities in the Greater Toronto Area.

After gaining the City’s approval as well as other necessary regulatory approvals for this step towards the expansion of the casino, OTG has opened 50 "live dealer" table games at the facility. This impressive collection includes the classic selection of live baccarat, live roulette, live blackjack amongst other games, and is expected to draw a lot of online players, as well as create hundreds of new jobs.

According to Newswire OTG's CEO, Rod Baker has said the following in a statement:

“This is another important achievement for One Toronto Gaming, made possible by the hard work from our team in collaboration with stakeholders including OLG, our regulators, and the City of Toronto. This not only is a significant step in the expansion and overall development of Casino Woodbine, but this additional gaming amenity has generated over 400 new jobs, and will create another 300 by the end of 2018.”

Along with the live dealer games, the land casino has also received a mini-upgrade, as 200 electronic tables and stadium-style games were also added in recent weeks. But it doesn’t stop there - OTG has claimed that it is currently anticipating a further addition of 50 live dealer table games and over 300 slot machines at Casino Woodbine by the end of the fourth quarter of 2018.

What are live dealer games?

Live casino gambling is one of the most recent additions to the world of online gambling thanks to the technological advancements and innovations that began to emerge in the 21st century. In order to understand what live dealer games are, you need first need to understand how live casino works. Basically, games like poker, baccarat and roulette, are streamed live and showed across the biggest online casino sites around the world. Dealers sit at their tables in a studio, with screens in front of them displaying the chat messages which allows them to talk directly to the players

In order for a user to tune into a live session, all he or she needs is a good and stable internet connection. Users can log into their accounts as per usual and join these live sessions to play against other online players. The difference, however, is that a live dealer will be shuffling the cards instead of a computer algorithm. When playing live casino games, a live dealer is streamed live and in real-time from a studio and is thus able to interact with you and the other players just as if you had to be together all in the same room at the same time. The idea of the live casino experience came about as a result of the need for online casinos to provide their users with an experience closer to that of a land-based casino.

History of Casino Woodbine

Casino Woodbine has been around for almost 70 years. It started out as a racetrack in the 1950s, and for the next 50 years or so it would become one of the most popular race tracks in Canada. Then, in 1999, Woodbine started offering slots as well, when in 2015, it got permits to open its own casino.

And now, it has just made another achievement as it will start hosting live dealer games. In fact, it is safe to say that 2018 definitely marks another big step in a new direction for the land-based casino as it will slowly start to pull in a wider audience who only need access to an internet connection to play casino games. As it stands, the future looks bright for this casino, and at the moment, expectations are running high.
