‘Wolverine 3’ will feature Mister Sinister as the film’s main villain as revealed by Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer. Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart were spotted filming scenes together in New Orleans, Louisiana.
According to Cinema Blend, director Bryan Singer and writer/producer Simon Kinberg revealed that Mister Sinister will be introduced into the X-Men franchise as the main villain for ‘Wolverine 3’. The two confirmed his appearance on the new film on an audio commentary attached to the release of Singer’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’.
Singer and Kinberg discussed the scrapped teaser idea for ‘Deadpool 2’ as well as confirmed that the Mister Sinister tease by the post-credits scene was to prepare audiences for the third installment in Wolverine’s standalone series. Although Singer will not be directing the upcoming film, he is still very knowledgeable about behind-the-scenes developments in the ‘X-Men’ franchise.
In the post-credits scene of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, a yet unconfirmed figure was seen snatching a vial of Weapon X and placing it in a briefcase with the Essex Corporation logo on it. The name Essex was speculated to link up to Nathaniel Essex, a geneticist and former scientist also known as the super villain Mister Sinister.
The character was first referenced in the original Marvel comic book ‘Uncanny X-Men #212’ from 1987. He finally appeared in full on ‘Uncanny X-Men #221’ also from 1987. He was created by artist Marc Silvestri and writer Chris Claremont.
Mister Sinister is a genetically altered human being that possesses superhuman physical and mental abilities. Following genetic alteration by Apocalypse using mutant DNA, Sinister has been capable of shape shifting, rapid healing, telepathy and telekinesis, and teleporting. He also has the power of flight, can erect force fields, and fire concussive blasts from his hands, eyes, and the diamond shaped scar on his forehead.
In addition to his powers, he is a known scientific genius with expertise in various fields such as biology, genetics, cloning, physics, and engineering. He is also a skilled manipulator and master strategist as well as a skilled combatant.
The actor playing Mister Sinister in the upcoming film remains unknown. According to The Wrap, Boyd Holbrook of ‘Narcos’ fame was originally speculated to take on the main villain role but it turns out he will be playing a head of security for a corporation. Casting rumors have turned to Richard E. Grant, who was cast as a yet unidentified “mad scientist” in the film.
Meanwhile, new photographs of Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart on the New Orleans filming set have emerged. In the images posted by Just Jared, Jackman is seen pushing Stewart around on a wheelchair. The scene shot reportedly involved the two rushing out of a casino and into a truck.
Jackman is reprising his role as Logan a.k.a. Wolverine for the final time in the franchise while Stewart returns to play Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X.
‘Wolverine 3’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by James Mangold and written by David James Kelley and Michael Green. It is produced by Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker, Lauren Shuler Donner, and co-produced by Kurt Williams. Joseph M. Caracciolo Jr., Stan Lee, and Josh McLaglen serve as executive producers.
The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 3, 2017.
