Mark Harmon is definitely no leaving “NCIS” and he will stay on the show until the end. Thus, it can be said Leroy Jethro Gibbs will continue his story in the series’ season 17 that was recently renewed.
Now, with the new season coming up, there are speculations that Cote de Pablo is returning as Agent Ziva David because there were many references to her character in “NCIS” season 16. Will she really come back and reunite with Mark Harmon as one of the original cast members?
Agent Ziva left “NCIS” in 2013 and now hopes for her return via “NCIS” season 17 were raised after the previous season brought her up numerous times. There was even an episode called “She” and many believe that the title is referring to Cote de Pablo so it means that she could be reuniting with Mark Harmon soon.
It should be noted that when Cote de Pablo explained why she left the show six years ago, many think that it was not the truth because there were rumors that she just did not like the direction that the writers were taking her character. But when she left, the possibilities of her return was kept open because her body was not found when the show made it appear like she was killed in an explosion.
Nevertheless, in “NCIS” season 16, the story seems to suggest that Ziva is alive so this is like paving the way for Cote de Pablo’s grand return to the show and join Mark Harmon again in solving their cases. What’s more, Cinemablend reported that the series’ showrunners actually promised to have her back.
Co-showrunner Steve Binder assured the viewers that they are not just mentioning Agent Ziva for nothing. “It's such a great thread, I'd hate to leave it on the table. But like anything, we don’t just want to tease the tease. If we do pull at it, we're going to have something interesting behind it, and not just keep doing the same beat over and over again,” the publication quoted Blinder as saying.
He added, “I don't want to say 'the sky’s the limit,' but given that she’s been gone for years, there’s a lot that could have happened that could be fodder for us, even if she’s not necessarily present.”
With that said, the prospect of Cote de Pablo working alongside Mark Harmon again in “NCIS” season 17 is high. Filming for the series may begin soon and the actress could be back on the set too.
