It is a good week for fans eagerly waiting for plot details about “Westworld” season 3. HBO just released a non-spoiler trailer that gives a good amount of clues on what Aaron Paul’s character is going to be like.
Note, however, that the real identity of Paul’s role remains unknown. The first official “Westworld” season 3 trailer only reveals that he is a handyman/construction worker who freelances as an expert thief with Lena Waithe. But the running theme in the video teaser is that
Paul is feeling some sense of alienation in “Westworld” season 3. His character speaks about unfulfilled promises by the society of the real world. Just as he speaks about finding something “real,” the trailer cuts to the scene where he first meets Rachel Evan Wood’s Dolores.
The fact that Paul is longing to feel something real and is feeling dejected by the social structure means his “Westworld” season 3 character will not be a straight-up villain. The ending scene of the trailer also clearly shows a genuine concern for Dolores who he just saw fatally shooting two men.
The end of season 2 made it clear that Dolores will not hesitate to use ruthless force to dominate the real world in “Westworld” season 3. With her past and the emotions overwhelming Paul’s character, they could become great allies in making the real world a much better place based on what they perceive as good.
Fans are still clueless about Paul’s character’s name and whether he is a host or not. But, interestingly, the 1:09 mark of the “Westworld” season 3 is seemingly a parallelism to the familiar recurring scene from season 1 of Dolores waking up after being rebooted. This just adds to possible clues that he would later have important connections to Dolores.
Meanwhile, Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) and Hale (Tessa Thompson) are not yet featured in this “Westworld” season 3 trailer. It is possible that more teasers will be released in the coming months to provide fans an idea of their whereabouts before the next season begins in 2020.
