Fans can now stop hoping for “Westworld” season 3 to arrive in 2019. HBO has already confirmed the third installment will not premiere until next year. But the good news is the show welcomes another powerhouse addition to its cast with Emmy-winner and “Master of None” star Lena Waithe.

The confirmation that “Westworld” season 3 is officially set for a 2020 release date arrived recently through a report from Collider. It is possible that the production of the third installment simply requires a much longer period compared to its predecessors.

It would also favor HBO’s programming to place “Westworld” season 3 for 2020 so it could follow-up on a jam-packed 2019 lineup with “Game of Thrones” ending in the next four weeks. The Evan Rachel Wood-led show will join “Curb Your Enthusiasm” season 10 and “Insecure” season 4 as HBO headliners for 2020.

There is also not much surprise to having a 2020 release date for “Westworld” season 3. Series co-creator Jonathan Nolan previously implied to Entertainment Weekly that a 2019 return for season 3 is unlikely. “We want you excited to come back after 18 months but that you haven’t been left hanging on the edge of a cliffhanger — that doesn’t really feel fair to the audience,” Nolan said before season 2 aired in April 2018.

Reports have it that the “Westworld” season 3 production has started in March while fans are advised to expect fewer episodes next year. A specific premiere date might not be announced until 2020 as well.

Waithe’s addition to the cast of “Westworld” season 3 was also confirmed earlier this month. However, The Hollywood Reporter says it is still unknown whether she becomes a series regular, will have a recurring role, or will only guest star. The 34-year-old actress, who won a Primetime Emmy award for co-writing in Netflix’s “Master of None,” joins Aaron Paul as the new faces in the HBO sci-fi hit. Details on their characters are still under wraps.
