Walmart Inc. unveiled its parcel stations that can be found inside its stores. The company said it set this up to make deliveries faster in this holiday season.
According to Reuters, Walmart also said that the new parcel stations are also expected to give the company’s sales a big boost since it will be able to deliver more at a quicker pace. The move comes prior to the major upcoming shopping events including the Black Friday Sale, Thanksgiving shopping, and Cyber Monday next week.
Advantages of the Parcel Stations
The new stations will be beneficial to both the customers, Walmart’s partners, and overall business operation. With the parcel stations, customers will have more flexibility in shopping online. They can enjoy next-day delivery and there is a wider variety of goods to choose from as well.
For partners, the addition of these parcel stations simply upgrades the process of distributing online purchases from Walmart stores. They make the ordering and delivery of items more efficient and easier for the partners thus they can fulfill more orders which means more sales.
Parcel Stations are Up and Running
“As we continue growing our omnichannel fulfillment capabilities, I am excited to share what’s next: adding parcel stations to our hubs. Parcel stations help us move goods even faster to a customer’s home by using our Private Fleet to transport more online orders,” Walmart US’ senior vice president, transportation and delivery, Jennifer McKeehan, said in an announcement. “Packages originate in our fulfillment centers and move to a sortation center or directly to stores, where they are then delivered to a customer’s home using our last-mile delivery network.”
McKeehan explained that due to many similarities, customers may also consider Walmart’s parcel station as a small post office that particularly collects and delivers packages to homes. Lastly, she revealed that by the end of the year, customers will find more than parcel stations in the brand’s store outlets.
Some stands are already in operation as the busy holiday shopping season begins. “We plan to expand this capability to other locations next year as we better serve customers with speed, accuracy and reliability. As we do, we’ll not only enhance the way we serve Walmart customers but also other businesses with Walmart GoLocal,” the SVP said.
