VICTORIA, British Columbia, Oct. 20, 2017 -- Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX:VCM), an experienced designer and manufacturer of innovative technology in the broadband equipment market, is delighted to announce that its Entra Access Switch has won the top award in the Optical Transport/Carrier Ethernet category in BTR’s (Broadband Technology Report) Diamond Technology Reviews 2017. Vecima’s Entra Distributed Access Platform and Terrace DVB product were named as finalists in the CCAP Systems and the Video Distribution Systems categories, respectively. The prestigious designations were announced at SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo 2017, the cable telecommunications industry’s premier event, in Denver, Colorado.
According to the judges, Vecima’s Entra Access Switch is a “great product for extending fiber plant without the added cost of fiber deployment and has excellent strand mounting capabilities.”
“This peer recognition of the innovation and design of our next-generation of products is indicative of Vecima’s trademark technical excellence and our responsiveness to the cable industry’s evolutionary needs,” said Sumit Kumar, President and CEO of Vecima Networks.
Vecima’s Entra Access Switch is a remote cloud-managed, eight port x 10GbE weatherproof switch capable of supporting Carrier Ethernet services in almost any deployment environment. Designed to extend the capacity of networks with insufficient fibers while minimizing the use of expensive digital optics, it can be placed at the edge of a broadband access network to support businesses, mobile network backhaul and DOCSIS 3.1 DAA aggregation.
Vecima's Entra DOCSIS 3.1 Distributed Access Platform, a convertible Remote PHY/Remote MACPHY Access Node that can operate as Remote PHY or Remote MACPHY through a firmware change, was considered a “game-changer” by the judges.
“Vecima is leading the way towards a software defined future with its new convertible PHY/MACPHY technology,” were among the judges’ comments. “This unique product offers additional deployment flexibility within the access network. By implementing a software-only upgrade, Vecima is changing the game by improving flexibility and ultimately lowering the total cost of ownership over hardware constrained solutions.”
Vecima’s third notable product is the Terrace DVB Commercial Video Gateway, a multi-channel QAM to DVB-T or QAM to QAM decrypting trans modulator used for business-to-business commercial video applications. A product line extension of its successful Terrace QAM platform, according to the judges, it “nicely fills a niche need in the commercial video market” by enabling DVB cable operators worldwide to effectively service their commercial accounts, providing bulk digital services more efficiently and cost-effectively. By offering both SD and HD programming in the same chassis, Terrace DVB has the flexibility to adapt to emerging technologies as well as legacy formats.
Vecima will be at Booth 1937 at SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo 2017 in Denver, Colorado. To learn more about Vecima’s award-winning products, please visit www.vecima.com.
