Russian forces launched a fresh drone attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, late Wednesday, causing a major fire at a hotel in the city center and scattering debris across multiple districts, according to local officials. The latest strike underscores the continuing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine war as Moscow maintains its aerial campaign against Ukrainian cities.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that a hotel located on Shevchenko Boulevard, one of the capital's main thoroughfares, caught fire after being struck during the attack. Images circulating on social media showed flames engulfing the upper floors and roof of the building as emergency responders rushed to contain the blaze.

Klitschko confirmed that firefighters and other emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene. He also reported that fragments from intercepted or crashed drones landed in Kyiv's city center and in a northeastern district, highlighting the widespread impact of the overnight assault.

Residents across the Ukrainian capital reported hearing multiple explosions, particularly in Kyiv's western neighborhoods, as air defense systems responded to the incoming drones. Photos shared on unofficial Telegram channels showed civilians seeking shelter inside underground metro stations while air raid alerts remained in effect.

The attack came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy warned that intelligence assessments pointed to a significant overnight Russian strike. In response to the anticipated escalation, Zelenskiy announced he was cutting short his visit to Dublin to return his focus to the rapidly evolving security situation.

The latest drone assault adds to a series of Russian attacks targeting Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, as the conflict continues with repeated strikes on civilian infrastructure. Ukrainian authorities are assessing the damage while emergency crews remain on the ground responding to the incident.
